Ingredients
Scale
The beauty of these burgers lies in their simplicity and the quality of ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped
- 1 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 whole-grain burger buns
- Your favorite toppings (lettuce, tomato, avocado, etc.)
Feel free to swap out the white cheddar for another cheese like mozzarella or swap the spinach for kale if you prefer. The key is to make the recipe work for you and your family.
Instructions
Follow these straightforward steps to bring these burgers to life:
- In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, chopped spinach, shredded white cheddar, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties. A tip from my grandmother: use a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.
- Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Add a little olive oil to the pan if using a skillet.
- Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. My secret is to let them rest for a couple of minutes before serving, allowing the juices to redistribute.
- Toast the burger buns on the grill or skillet for a minute or two, until golden brown.
- Assemble the burgers with your choice of toppings. I love adding fresh lettuce, juicy tomato slices, and creamy avocado for a burst of freshness.
