Learn how to make delicious Spinach and Artichoke Stuffed Bread. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Gathering your ingredients is just the first step in creating this masterpiece. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 loaf of Italian or French bread, unsliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1 can (14 ounces) artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a little kick)

Feel free to substitute the mozzarella with cheddar for a sharper taste or use whole grain bread to add a rustic touch. Remember, cooking is about improvisation and making each dish your own!

Instructions

Let’s dive into the process of creating this delightful dish, step by step:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Slice the top off the loaf of bread and hollow out the inside, leaving about a 1-inch shell. Set aside the bread you removed for another use, like breadcrumbs.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  5. Stir in the chopped spinach, cooking until just wilted, about 2 minutes. Add the artichokes and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  6. Remove the skillet from heat and mix in the cream cheese until smooth. Then, stir in the sour cream, mozzarella, Parmesan, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  7. Spoon the creamy spinach and artichoke mixture into the hollowed-out loaf, pressing down gently to pack the filling.
  8. Place the filled loaf on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Let the bread cool slightly before slicing into it, allowing the flavors to meld together beautifully.

One of my favorite moments is watching the kids’ eyes light up as they take their first bite, just like when I first tried my grandmother’s cooking. Cooking is truly about creating memories that last a lifetime.
