Learn how to make delicious Shrimp and Crab Biscuit Melts. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 8 large buttermilk biscuits (store-bought or homemade, your choice)
  • 1/2 pound cooked shrimp, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 pound lump crab meat, drained and picked over for shells
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (feel free to use light or avocado mayo)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning (or your favorite seafood seasoning blend)
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onions or chives
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Substitution tip: If you can’t find lump crab meat, canned crab works well too—just be sure to drain it thoroughly. For a lower-fat option, swap mayo for Greek yogurt, though it will change the flavor slightly.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. If using store-bought biscuits, split them in half horizontally and arrange the bottom halves on the baking sheet. For homemade biscuits, bake according to your favorite recipe and then split once slightly cooled.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the chopped shrimp, crab meat, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Old Bay seasoning, lemon juice, minced garlic, and green onions. Gently fold the ingredients together to keep the seafood pieces intact.
  4. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Remember, the seafood and seasoning already add saltiness, so taste before adding more.
  5. Spoon an even layer of the seafood mixture over each biscuit bottom, then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese generously on top.
  6. Place the biscuit tops over the cheese layer, pressing gently to secure the filling.
  7. Brush the melted butter over the biscuit tops, which helps them brown beautifully and adds extra flavor.
  8. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the cheese has melted. You’ll know it’s ready when the tops are slightly crispy and the filling is bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. This step helps the filling set slightly, making the melts easier to eat.

From personal experience, I’ve found that using fresh seafood makes a noticeable difference, but if you’re pressed for time, pre-cooked shrimp and good-quality crab meat work wonders. I also like to add a little extra garlic when my family’s around—they adore that punch of flavor.
