  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Gathering your ingredients before starting any recipe is part of the ritual I love. It reminds me of standing on that stool in my grandmother’s kitchen, eagerly anticipating the magic that was about to unfold. For these cinnamon rolls, here’s what you’ll need:

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin butter
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

If you don’t have pumpkin butter on hand, you can easily substitute with apple butter for a different but equally delicious twist.

Instructions

Let’s get baking! Here’s how you can bring these delightful rolls to life:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together 2 1/4 cups of flour, the granulated sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the milk, water, and butter until the butter is melted and the mixture is warm to the touch (about 110°F).
  3. Add the milk mixture and egg to the flour mixture, stirring until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 6-8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  7. Once risen, roll the dough into a 16×9 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  8. Spread the pumpkin butter evenly over the dough.
  9. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and brown sugar, then sprinkle over the pumpkin butter.
  10. Starting at a long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 equal pieces.
  11. Place the rolls cut-side up in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  12. Preheat your oven to 350°F and bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown.
  13. While the rolls bake, make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, cream cheese, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  14. Once the rolls are done, let them cool slightly before drizzling the glaze over the top.

Enjoy these rolls warm, when their aroma is simply irresistible, and their taste is a comforting hug after a long day.
