Learn how to make delicious Million Dollar Lasagna. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato paste
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 16 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Feel free to substitute ground turkey for a lighter version or use gluten-free noodles to cater to dietary preferences.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. In a large pot over medium heat, combine ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic. Cook until meat is browned and onions are tender, about 7-8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water to the meat mixture. Stir in sugar, basil, Italian seasoning, and parsley. Simmer, uncovered, for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles for 8-10 minutes, or until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and salt. Stir until well blended.
  5. To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese and a third of Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  6. Cover with foil to prevent sticking. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes. Let it cool for 15 minutes before serving.
