Feel free to substitute ground turkey for a lighter version or use gluten-free noodles to cater to dietary preferences.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. In a large pot over medium heat, combine ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic. Cook until meat is browned and onions are tender, about 7-8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water to the meat mixture. Stir in sugar, basil, Italian seasoning, and parsley. Simmer, uncovered, for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles for 8-10 minutes, or until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and salt. Stir until well blended.
- To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese and a third of Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover with foil to prevent sticking. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes. Let it cool for 15 minutes before serving.
