Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package of puff pastry, thawed
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Substitution tip: If you’re fresh out of cream cheese, ricotta makes a delightful alternative, providing a slightly different texture and flavor that’s equally delicious.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, egg yolk, and lemon juice until smooth and creamy. This is your delicious filling.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet slightly. Cut it into 8 equal rectangles.
- Place a generous tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each rectangle. Fold the corners of each rectangle over the filling, pinching to secure.
- Transfer the pastries to the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart. Brush the tops with beaten egg to ensure a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed. The aroma will be irresistible!
- Allow to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired. Enjoy warm for the best experience.
Pro tip: When folding the pastry, ensure the edges are well-sealed to prevent the filling from leaking out during baking.
