Ingredients
These cheesesteaks are all about using simple, fresh ingredients that come together in no time. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 4 hoagie rolls, split
- Optional: 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
If you’re looking to switch things up, feel free to substitute the provolone with American or mozzarella cheese for a different twist.
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers, cooking until they’re soft and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
- Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes.
- Once the beef is cooked, mix it with the onions and peppers. Stir in the garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to let the flavors meld.
- Reduce the heat to low. Layer the provolone cheese on top of the beef mixture in the skillet, allowing it to melt, about 2 minutes.
- While the cheese is melting, lightly toast the hoagie rolls in the oven or a toaster.
- Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into each hoagie roll. If desired, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise inside each roll before adding the filling.
These steps are straightforward, but don’t rush through them. Enjoy the aroma wafting through your kitchen as the ingredients transform into something magical.
