Ingredients
- 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 (10-ounce) can diced tomatoes with green chilies, drained
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (adjust for spice level)
- Salt and pepper to taste
These ingredients are staples in my pantry, always ready to be transformed into something special. And if you’re missing one or two, don’t worry! You can easily substitute ground turkey for the sausage for a lighter option or use different cheeses based on what you have on hand.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Use a wooden spoon to break the sausage into smaller pieces as it cooks.
- Drain any excess fat from the skillet and return the sausage to the pan.
- Add cream cheese and sour cream to the skillet, stirring until the mixture is well combined and creamy.
- Stir in the mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes with green chilies, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
- Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the cheese is melted and the mixture is bubbling, about 5 minutes.
- Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with your favorite dippers!
These steps are a dance I’ve done countless times, each swirl of the spoon a reminder of my grandmother’s gentle guidance and the chaos of family life swirling in the background.
