Learn how to make delicious Copycat Bonefish Grill Bang Bang Shrimp. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

To recreate this dish, you’ll need a few key ingredients that you might already have on hand. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

If you’re out of buttermilk, a simple substitute is mixing 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar and letting it sit for 5 minutes. This trick has saved me countless times when I needed buttermilk at the last minute!

Instructions

Let’s dive into making this mouthwatering dish. Here’s how you can whip it up in no time:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, and sriracha sauce. Set this sauce aside for later; it will provide that signature Bang Bang flavor.
  2. Place the shrimp in a large bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Let them soak while you prepare the coating.
  3. In another bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, and salt. This mixture will give the shrimp their crispy coating.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan or skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F. You’ll know it’s ready when a small piece of bread dropped in the oil sizzles and turns golden brown.
  5. Drain the shrimp from the buttermilk, then dredge them in the flour mixture, making sure each piece is well-coated.
  6. Working in batches, fry the shrimp in the hot oil until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan to ensure even cooking.
  7. Once cooked, remove the shrimp with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Toss the fried shrimp in the prepared sauce until they are evenly coated.
  9. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve immediately.

One of my favorite parts of this recipe is watching the shrimp transform in the hot oil, turning golden and crisp. It’s a bit like magic in the kitchen!
