Learn how to make delicious Cheesy Ranch Potatoes and Smoked Sausage. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, diced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) ranch seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese or add a dash of paprika for a bit of spice. This recipe is forgiving and can be tailored to your family’s taste. And if you’re in the mood for a twist, try sweet potatoes instead of russet for a hint of sweetness.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a large baking dish with olive oil.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the diced potatoes, olive oil, and ranch seasoning mix. Toss until the potatoes are evenly coated.
  3. Spread the potatoes in the prepared baking dish and bake for 30 minutes, stirring halfway through, until they are tender and golden brown.
  4. While the potatoes are baking, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the sour cream and milk until smooth.
  6. Once the potatoes are done, remove them from the oven. Stir in the cooked sausage, sour cream mixture, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and return the dish to the oven. Bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired and serve warm.

As you prepare this dish, remember that cooking is about more than just following instructions—it’s an opportunity to infuse a little love into each step. Don’t rush through it; enjoy the process and the anticipation of sharing something delicious with your loved ones.
