Learn how to make delicious Cheesy Ground Beef & Potato Casserole. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Gather these ingredients for a delightful culinary journey:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

If you’re out of cream of mushroom soup, feel free to substitute with cream of chicken or a homemade white sauce. For a lighter twist, swap out ground beef with ground turkey.

Instructions

Let’s bring this comforting dish to life with easy-to-follow steps:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until fragrant and golden, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, cooking until browned and fully cooked, around 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, pepper, and paprika. Stir well until the mixture is smooth.
  5. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes followed by half of the beef mixture. Pour half of the soup mixture over the top and sprinkle with half of the cheese.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.
  7. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Let the casserole sit for about 5 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
