Ingredients
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 (8 oz) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
- Optional: 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips or fresh berries for added texture and flavor
If you prefer a lighter version, you can swap the cream cheese for Neufchâtel cheese, which has less fat but retains that creamy tang. For a dairy-free twist, plant-based cream cheese alternatives work well, just make sure they’re softened for easier spreading. And if you don’t have crescent roll dough on hand, puff pastry sheets make a wonderful substitute, though the texture will be slightly different—flakier rather than soft and pillowy.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. I always find that lining the sheet prevents sticking and makes cleanup much easier—something I appreciate on busy days.
- In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the granulated sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. This step reminds me of those times I’d watch my grandmother carefully mix ingredients, making sure the texture was just right—patience here really pays off.
- Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into triangles along the pre-scored lines.
- Spoon about one tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture onto the wide end of each triangle. If you’re adding mini chocolate chips or berries, sprinkle a few on top of the cream cheese now.
- Starting at the wide end, roll each triangle up toward the point, encasing the filling inside. Place the rolls seam-side down on your prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden finish once baked.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crescent rolls are puffed and golden brown. I like to peek in around the 12-minute mark to make sure they’re browning evenly—every oven is a little different!
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- If desired, dust with powdered sugar before serving for a pretty, sweet touch that makes these rolls feel extra special.
