Learn how to make delicious BBQ Chicken and Ranch Biscuit Bake. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 3 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works beautifully here)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (choose your favorite brand or homemade for extra love)
  • 1 cup ranch dressing (homemade or store-bought, depending on your time)
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough (buttermilk biscuits preferred for fluffiness)
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions (optional, for a fresh pop of flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (adds a subtle smoky depth)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Substitution suggestions: If you want to lighten it up, swap the cheddar for part-skim mozzarella or a milder cheese your kids prefer. Ranch dressing can be replaced with Greek yogurt mixed with ranch seasoning for a tangier, healthier twist. And if biscuits aren’t your go-to, flaky puff pastry or even cornbread muffins can step in as delicious alternatives.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray to keep things from sticking and to add a little extra richness.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the shredded chicken, barbecue sauce, ranch dressing, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until the chicken is evenly coated. This mix is where the magic begins—don’t rush it! I like to taste a little here and adjust the seasoning as needed to make it just right for my family.
  3. Spread the chicken mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. This is the base layer, so make sure it’s nice and even so every bite gets that perfect balance of flavors.
  4. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the chicken. I always use sharp cheddar for that extra punch of flavor, but feel free to mix in some mozzarella for meltiness if you like.
  5. Open your can of biscuit dough and separate the biscuits. Cut each biscuit into halves or quarters depending on their size, then arrange them on top of the cheese layer. Don’t overcrowd; you want enough space for the biscuits to expand and get golden and fluffy.
  6. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through. You’ll know it’s done when the biscuits spring back lightly to the touch and the cheese is bubbling around the edges.
  7. Remove from the oven and sprinkle chopped green onions over the top for a fresh, bright finish. Let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving—this helps everything settle and makes it easier to scoop.
  8. Serve warm, and watch your family dig in with happy, satisfied smiles. This is one of those dishes that tastes even better the next day, so leftovers are a bonus!

When I first made this for my family, I was amazed at how quickly the biscuits disappeared. It reminded me of those Sunday dinners where everyone lingered at the table a little longer because the food was just that good—and that’s exactly the kind of meal I want to share with you.
