Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
If you’re out of maple syrup, honey can be a delightful substitute, though the flavor will be slightly different. And if you’re looking for a dairy-free option, almond milk works beautifully in this recipe.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to tough donuts.
- Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the bars are baking, prepare the maple glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup and confectioners’ sugar until smooth.
- Once the bars are done, let them cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before drizzling with the maple glaze.
- Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before cutting into bars and serving.
These donut bars remind me of the joy of transformation in cooking—how a few simple ingredients can come together to create something magical.
