Ingredients
- 4 large croissants
- 8 slices deli ham
- 4 slices Swiss cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon poppy seeds (optional)
Feel free to get creative. If you’re out of Swiss cheese, cheddar or provolone work beautifully. And if you’re feeling adventurous, a dash of honey mixed with mustard adds a delightful sweetness that complements the savory notes perfectly.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Slice each croissant in half horizontally. If you’re using fresh croissants, be gentle to avoid flattening them.
- Mix the Dijon mustard and honey in a small bowl if using. Spread the mixture on the inside of each croissant half.
- Layer two slices of ham and one slice of cheese onto the bottom half of each croissant. Replace the top half.
- Brush the tops of the croissants with melted butter, and sprinkle with poppy seeds if desired.
- Place the croissants on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the croissants are golden brown.
As you wait, take a moment to relish in the aroma that’s likely filling your kitchen. It’s a little reminder of the warmth and love that’s about to be shared at the table.
