Ingredients
- 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
- 8 flour tortillas
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for sprinkling
If you’re out of brown sugar, feel free to use all granulated sugar instead. Swap nutmeg with allspice if that’s what you have on hand. This recipe is forgiving, just like those old family recipes that adjusted to whatever was available in the pantry.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the diced apples, lemon juice, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Cook the mixture for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples become tender and juicy.
- Add the cornstarch mixture to the apples, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Meanwhile, brush both sides of each tortilla with melted butter. Cut each tortilla into wedges and arrange them evenly on the prepared baking sheets.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture generously over the tortilla wedges.
- Bake the tortilla chips for 8-10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Allow the chips to cool on a wire rack before serving them with the apple pie dip.
